Stretched & Strengthened

“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” (Heb. 12:11 NIV)

A note from Pastor Brandon Levering

What a perfect verse to capture the impact of 2020 on God’s people. This year has stretched us in so many uncomfortable ways. From the seemingly endless challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, to the societal unrest of protests, riots, and a polarizing election year, to being dislocated from our church facility not once (thanks COVID) but twice (thanks Derecho). It’s easy in the midst of it all to throw our hands up in exasperation or hang our heads in despair…

Unyielding Faith in the Year Ahead

As 2020 draws to a close and we turn our eyes to the year ahead, let’s face it with the strength that comes from God’s presence, not our circumstances. If we’re honest, we don’t know what this next year will bring. Will we continue to be stretched by difficult situations, or will we turn a corner toward a season of refreshment and renewal? None of us can say. What we can say is that the grace of Jesus is sufficient to sustain us whatever lies ahead. What we do know is that the gospel of God is powerful not only to begin a relationship with God, but to strengthen us for everything God calls us to do as followers or Christ. May we hold fast to the gospel with unyielding faith this year, eager to see God make much of his name as we walk alongside each person we meet as they take their next step with Jesus.
